This song was written in early 1989. It is one of the most cheery songs I have ever written or will ever write again. On the other hand, it makes a good point that there are bad things that happen, so it is certainly applicable to what we are living today.

6 AM In Yorkville
Performed by bfk, August 2026
This four-minute rock opera is a love song to New York, especially Yorkville where I lived for a dozen years beginning in 1977. That Yorkville no longer exists of course. For decades before, it had been a thriving mitteleuropäisch area: Czech, Hungarian, and German restaurants, spice stores, meat markets, and sweet shops. But it also had Korean grocers, the well reputed Afghan Pamir, and Little Finland on 86th Street. It’s nightlife consisted innumerable restaurants with bars. My favorite, Drake’s Drum, served the best fish and chips or shepherd’s pie my meager money could buy. In fact I first discovered it through “NYC on $15 A Day.” Like Manhattan at the time, Yorkville was gritty, tough, and fast. It was wonderful. Only vestiges remain now.
Another true love song. Orlando (and Rosalind) are still at that beautiful, tender age when there is no discernible difference between romantic love and sensuousness. Life soon sorts out such lovely but doomed desires. So it was great for me to experience it once again through Orlando. If you’ve ever loved any one absolutely completely, or been loved by someone in that manner, even it only once, and all the rest is disappointment or frustration, know that you were among the very fortunate.

I Didn't Know You

This tender song of longing (in double entendre) was written in Fall 1988. It made sense to give it a tropical feel at the time as our New York Islands sometimes have harsher weather during our lovely autumns. I was delighted that The Rock(er)ettes (Angela, Frida, Jiangqing, and Nadezhda) were between bookings. They not only had backup vocals to do on this reprise version, but they also had to take up new instruments. Fortunately these girls are real troupers.
Funny Money
Performed by bfk & the Rock(er)ettes,

This a is tender song of longing that was remixed in 2026 from an original recorded in June 1971. The lack of money being the root of all evil, a third verse was added that suggests how to address this problem. Aiding the performance of this piece are the Rock(er)ettes, four talented musicians, dancers, and models.
